Slovenia celebrating 200 years of public music education

Slovenia is celebrating 200 years of Public music education – The first public music school was founded in 1816 in Ljubljana which puts Slovenia among the very first in Europe. To celebrate this a series of manifestations were organised in 2016. The final event of the jubilee year was a gala concert on November 13th, 2016, in the main concert hall ‘Cankarjev dom’ in Ljubljana where three symphony orchestras composed of students from all music schools and music gymnasia as well as the Academy of Music of Ljubljana performed a wonderful programme of very high level of musicianship.
The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Mr. Borut Pahor, honoured the concert with his presence and gave a private reception prior to the concert for actual and former music school directors.
At the beginning of the gala concert, Boris Štih, president of the Slovenian Association of Music Schools, received a high national distinction from President Borut Pahor.
