INTRODUCTION

In the course of some 15 years EMU and its member-associations have been able to build up an enormous experience in organising a Youth Music Festival. So far this experience was mainly passed on during more or less brief encounters the latest organising member-country had with the one that would do the next Festival.

With these Minimum Requirements and Suggestions EMU wants to build a catalogue that will develop in the years to come and that will keep stored in some headlines all the crucial knowledge that has been gathered during organising Festivals. In this way a useful memory will be built that can only seduce more countries to start dreaming about what a Festival in their specific country could be like.

But there is more to it: a member-association that says ‘yes’ to the positive challenge of preparing a Festival also takes upon itself a big responsibility, not only towards itself but also towards the other members and their pupils and teachers. We have to be clear about the fact that organising these wonderful Festivals also brings to the organiser a lot of pains: personal hardship and financial worries that have to be taken away. The participating groups on their side have been able to gather very good experiences these 15 years and tend to have concrete expectations on what they may find abroad that cannot easily be denied.

EMU hopes to have given its members a useful guideline. As mentioned before there are Minimum Requirements that every organising member has to meet and cannot dismiss. These are formulated in section A. Section B offers mere useful suggestions EMU would appreciate its organising members to fulfil. Read on here:
