The Road Map for Arts Education is a key outcome of the World Conference on Arts Education, which was convened in Lisbon in March 2006. The Road Map is designed to promote a common understanding among all stakeholders of the importance of Arts Education in developing in learners the creative capacities required for the 21st century, and its essential role in improving the quality of education. Serving as an evolving reference document, the Road Map provides a framework for Member States to develop their own guidelines for the integration of Arts Education at a local level.
The Road Map has been discussed during EMU's General Assembly in Kuopio, Finland in November 2006. Reports of the working groups
The main conclusions were that:
- EMU should promote all actions sharing the principles of the Unesco text and contribute to the
diffusion of the Road Map on national and European levels. - The Road Map should be translated and published in each language.
- The Road Map should be discussed in all countries with each responsible level in government.
