2010 will be the 'European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion'.
- The European Year 2010 aims to:Recognise the rights and capacity of excluded people to play an active part in society;
- Underline the responsibility of everyone in society to tackle poverty;
- Promote social cohesion and disseminate successful practices on inclusion;
- Reinforce the commitment of all major political players to take more effective actions.
2009: the 'European Year of Creativity and Innovation' aims to raise awareness of the importance of creativity and innovation for personal, social and economic development; to disseminate good practices; to stimulate education and research, and to promote policy debate on related issues.
The year 2008 has been designated as the ‘European Year of Intercultural Dialogue’ to promote intercultural dialogue as a process in which all those living in the EU can improve their ability to deal with a more open cultural environment.
In 2007 the European Commission has published a 'Communication for a European agenda for culture in a globalizing world'
On 9 November 2007 the EMU presidium met Mr Jan Figel', European Commissioner for Education, Training, Culture and Youth in Bratislava. Read more in the report of the meeting
In 2005 the UNESCO General Conference adopted the 'Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions'
The Convention has been discussed during the EMU's General Assembly in Pécs, Hungary in May 2007.

Road Map for Arts Education
The Road Map for Arts Education is a key outcome of UNESCO World Conference on Arts Education 'Building Creative Capacities for the 21st Century' in Lisbon in March 2006
The Road Map has been discussed during EMU's General Assembly in Kuopio, Finland in November 2006.
